GCU students experience work at Clark Contracts
Six students from Glasgow Caledonian University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment will be completing a six month work placement at Clark Contracts.
Four construction management and two quantity surveying students will be working alongside experienced Clark Contracts employees, many of whom have also progressed through the company’s award winning Academy. The students will gain experience working on live projects to give them a real insight into the construction industry.
The company’s Academy encompasses all employees undertaking part time studies at college or university at all levels across the business.
Clark Contracts employs quantity surveying and construction management students annually through its Academy for their six month work experience placement. Many students go on to accept full time permanent contracts choosing to work alongside completing their university qualification. All seven students that completed their placement in December 2017 were offered and accepted permanent positions at Clark Contracts.
In addition to the new students, seven Clark Contracts employees are studying towards a bespoke Masters degree at Glasgow Caledonian University undertaking modules from the construction management, quantity surveying and management Masters courses.
This further strengthens Clark Contracts relationship with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) where managing director, Gordon Cunningham, and directors, Michael Scanlan and Gerry Cummins also studied. Over 20% of Clark Contracts employees are currently studying towards formal qualifications including trade apprenticeships, HNC, HND, BSc and Masters degrees.
