Glasgow approves revised City Development Plan

Sighthill_BridgeA document which provides a strategy for the efficient use of land and the provision of vital infrastructure over the next decade has been approved by Glasgow City Council.

Policies included in the revised City Development Plan will be used to consider all future planning applications while investors in the private and public sectors will be aware of where development and regeneration will take place in the city.

Three Scottish Government Reporters have examined the Plan over the past year and their report can be read here.

In the vast majority of cases the council’s position was accepted through the Examination process, highlighting the work put into the Plan’s preparation. The two most significant modifications relate to housing land requirement and in economic development areas and the council is committed to implementing the examination recommendations that were made.

The modified City Development Plan will now be finalised and submitted to the Scottish Government for scrutiny. If the Scottish Ministers do not identify a matter that would prevent the Plan from proceeding towards adoption, then the Plan would be presented to the council’s executive committee.

If approved, it would then become Glasgow’s adopted Local Development Plan, replacing City Plan 2.

Councillor Frank McAveety, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “We are now moving towards the final stages of the preparation of the City Development Plan for Glasgow. I look forward to its adoption and its use as a key tool in the future growth of the city.”
