Glasgow hotel plan dropped in favour of student accommodation
A student accommodation building is now being proposed for a Glasgow City Centre site instead of a hotel, as previously planned.
Caledon Property Group hopes to knock down the disused commercial buildings on the corner of Hutcheson Street and Trongate, and replace them with a 173-bed study housing facility, reGlasgow reports.
In February 2020, permission was granted by Glasgow City Council for a 157-bedroom aparthotel at the site.
A statement given as part of pre-application consultation reads: “The previously approved scheme has been amended to reflect PBSA [purpose-built student accommodation] floor plans which now accommodate different size apartments and private amenity spaces at ground floor level, basement levels and upper floors.
“The new proposal will retain the same mass of the previously consented building envelope. We are currently working to finalise exterior materiality and details.”
