Glasgow’s growing student accommodation needs boosted by new development
The completion of a £10 million property redevelopment in the heart of Glasgow’s west end will help support a new influx of students to the city thanks to a joint venture between Kier Property and Amber Infrastructure Group.
Lysander Student Properties Limited, the operating name for the partnership, appointed Kier Construction to undertake the redevelopment of Clifton House and Stewart House, transforming them into much needed high quality student accommodation.
Located on Clifton Place, Clifton House will provide a total of 213 bed spaces, while Stewart House on Elderslie Street will provide 51 studio flats, each offering en suite facilities.
The development follows Kier’s completion of a similar project in Dumbarton Road in Glasgow’s Partick district earlier this year.
Pip Prongué, director of Lysander Student Properties Limited, said: “This partnership has delivered two highly sustainable, contemporary and functional developments, completed to the very best in industry standards.
“The sites will go a long way in supporting the accommodation needs of young students attending university in Glasgow for years to come - something that everyone involved in the project is extremely proud of.”
Brian McQuade, managing director of Kier Construction’s Scotland and north-east England business, added: “We were proud to work alongside Amber Infrastructure Group and Kier Property; the expertise, dedication and skills that both parties brought to the table went a long way in securing the project’s completion on time and within the outlined budget.
“This development follows a number of recent completions by Kier this year, illustrating our continued commitment to the construction sector in Scotland.”
