Mark Howie

Mark has over 20 years’ experience in software engineering and spent a large proportion of his career at ION Geophysical, supporting technical E&P software projects onshore and offshore. His experience stretches from working in the field to leading multi-disciplinary teams in a market-focused environment.

As chief engineer, Mark and his team of remote sensing, data science, and software specialists, will enhance the processes and infrastructure in the productisation of GSI’s earth observation services. He will also support the leadership team as they take the company’s product strategy to market this year.

Gavin Tweedie, CEO of GSI, said: “Demand for our asset intelligence has seen the business grow by 500% in the last 12 months. The earth observation market is booming – especially in Scotland – and our team is continually growing to support the advances in the industry and the requirements of our clients. Moving toward productisation to make rich earth observation data accessible at various levels – classifying, measuring and analysing – will enable businesses to make real-time decisions, eliminating doubt and having a positive impact on the bottom line.

“We have shifted the company focus away from projects and services to concentrate on a product-led strategy. Mark will support this strategy development within GSI through his technical insight and market-focused approach.”

Mark added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining this thriving company as it has big plans in refining earth observation analysis. Our team will work to deliver the products to customers through the smart application of technologies and agile methodologies.”

GSI has doubled its headcount over the past six months, with plans to continue this growth throughout 2019.
