The Merchant’s House of Glasgow was a fitting setting for the members who attended our Scotland AGM and Summer reception for members on 6 June. After hearing highlights of FMB’s recent work and future plans from Scotland President Alastair Raitt and myself, we confirmed the results of the 2024 Scotland Board elections.

By the time nominations closed on 1 May, 13 members had submitted nominations for the nine vacancies on the Scotland Board. This triggered an online election, which concluded on Friday 31 May. Alastair Raitt confirmed the following members who were either elected or re-elected to the Scotland Board: Angus Reid-Evans, Brendan Forbes, Colin McInnes, James Gilmour, Joshua Park, Mark MacDonald, Peter Tait, Robert Wilson and Stephen O’Neill.

A new President for Scotland

After almost four years as Scotland President, Alastair Raitt confirmed this spring he would be standing down at the AGM. There will be continuity though, as Alastair is remaining on the Scotland Board as its representative on FMB’s Board of Directors. Pam Wilson has become the first female President of the FMB in Scotland, as she was elected.

Pam said: “It was five years ago to the day when I was first elected to FMB’s Scotland Board at the AGM in Edinburgh. I have been on quite a journey since then and I wouldn’t have believed back then if you had told me that I would be elected as the Scotland President five years later. Today I am absolutely delighted and it’s an honour being the first female President of FMB Scotland.”

“Alastair has been a fantastic President for the last four year, especially navigating the first two years of COVID. I look forward to working with him, fellow Scotland Board members and with FMB’s Scotland Director Gordon Nelson in my new role.”

After the AGM business concluded, there was an interactive session where two guest speakers shared their insights and tips with members. Business coach, Craig Rattray, explained how members could improve their business acumen tenfold, and Rebecca Bonnington of Tricres Ltd focused on how to build a strong business model that doesn’t require 24/7 input from the owner to operate, and how to develop an affordable exit plan.
Exhibitors prove a hit with members
