Green light for 374 student flats in Aberdeen
Planners in Aberdeen have approved plans for a 374-bed student accommodation development on John Street.
The scheme, prepared by Fletcher Joseph Associates, is a high-quality development of an empty brownfield site, left derelict following the demise of an originally approved hotel scheme set out by another developer.
In a statement the architects said: “Once complete the building will offer active frontage, linking the city centre streets with the Woolmanhill area, and feature a landmark corner block, which is to act as a visible bookend to John Street. The development’s u-shape footprint offers amenity at the heart of the scheme, channelling building occupants around internal and external social areas.”
The proposals have also been improved, following dialogue with Aberdeen City Council in order to offer better daylighting to both future students and neighbouring properties.
Developer George Downing Construction is looking to start on site in the coming months with a view that students will be able to move in by the end of Summer 2018.
