Greenock set for horticultural training and community centre

Inverclyde Council has given planning approval for a horticultural training and community centre at Broomhill, Greenock.

An initiative undertaken by the Inverclyde Association for Mental Health and local residents, it will see two brownfield sites transformed into a walled garden containing its own orchard, training area and single storey community hall.

Designed by Inch Architecture, the building will comprise of a training space, meeting space, hall area, cafe and office space. It will also house Inverclyde Association for Mental Health to support them in delivering an extended range of employment training opportunities for people with mental health issues.

The centre will be acting as a community based anchor facility that will complement the housing and environmental regeneration of Broomhill. The project will also support the development of In Work Horticultural Service as a major social enterprise in the area.

Work is scheduled to get underway in the summer.
