Groundworks complete at HHA development in Inverness
Inverness-based contractor Capstone Construction has completed groundworks at a new residential development in the popular Slackbuie area of Inverness.
Led by Highlands mid-market rental (MMR) housing developer Highland Housing Alliance (HHA), Slackbuie View will comprise 24 new homes including 18 two-bedroom cottage flats, four three-bedroom semi-detached homes, and two four-bedroom semi-detached houses.
Importantly, the homes will all be available at MMR tenure which is typically priced lower than private rental costs and slightly higher than affordable housing. This offers residents well-priced rental opportunities as demand for homes continues to soar across the Highlands.
The development is a natural extension of the existing Slackbuie community that is well connected to public amenities located nearby. As part its developer contribution, HHA has provided more than £180,000 that will benefit local primary and secondary schools, and community facilities.
The wider project team includes Helica Project Management, engineering firm Fairhurst, and quantity surveyor WSD Scotland, with architectural services completed by Bracewell Stirling Architects.
Funding for the development has been supported by the Scottish Government, The Highland Council, and the Inverness and Highland City Region Deal. Capstone Construction is on track to complete construction of the homes in early 2025, with the first residents expected to move in during 2025.
Gail Matheson, chief executive at HHA, said: “We’re really pleased to see HHA homes start to get out of the ground in Slackbuie which will provide the area with high-quality rental opportunities.
“The variety of homes available will be attractive to a range of demographics, including young professionals and growing families in the community. We have a fantastic project team that is working on schedule to complete the development, including Capstone Construction who we have built a fantastic relationship with after successfully delivering other new developments together.”
Capstone Construction and HHA have collaborated on multiple residential-led projects in recent years, including the Mannsfield Place development in Avoch and Raining Stairs, Inverness.
Rhona Donnelly, managing director at Capstone Construction, said: “HHA is a trusted delivery partner with an ambitious and commendable vision to improve the housing market across the Highlands.
“The 24 new homes in Slackbuie will be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood, offering close proximity to a range of local amenities and community services, as well as Inverness city centre just a short distance away.
“Completion of the groundworks marks a significant milestone in our construction timeline and we’re looking forward to seeing the homes take shape.”
HHA is also underway with the delivery of 150 more MMR homes at a variety of developments across Inverness, Carrbridge, Kingussie and Aviemore. In February 2024, HHA entered a strategic partnership with Tulloch Homes to deliver 75 new MMR homes in a selection of the housing developer’s new developments in the Highlands.
