Heat recovery system added to revised Finnieston build to rent proposal

The team behind a planned residential-led mixed-use development on the site of a Glasgow gym have updated their proposals with a series of changes.

Architect Cooper Cromar, working on behalf of real estate firm Redevco, brought forward plans last year for a community of 362 apartments located at 11 Minerva Way. The site is currently occupied by a Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Gym.

As part of the reconfiguration, plans for a gas-fired combined heat and power plant will be replaced with a heat recovery system, massing to Minerva Way will be reduced and the northern block has also been straightened and pushed back from the site boundary to allow a children’s play area to be created.

Cooper Cromar wrote: “Similar to the restricted colour palette of the Finnieston locale, we are looking at a textured natural toned brickwork with architectural interest above windows and at double stacked floor edges. Architectural ironwork at balustrades will also be designed to add playful interest at openings.

“The softer internal courtyard harks back to Glasgow’s well-established architectural language of external matt masonry and inner light glazed brick courts. The Terracotta, whilst reflecting light and seasons, creates a dynamic green mantle adjacent to the leafy central core of the proposal.”
