HLM student accommodation schemes recognised at industry awards
Student accommodation developments by HLM Architects at the University of St Andrews have been recognised by two established award bodies.
A joint venture between the University of St Andrews and Campus Living Villages, Whitehorn Hall was awarded the Student Development of the Year Award at the Scottish Property Awards. As Scotland’s largest annual celebration of commercial and public property, the awards celebrate high quality work to improve the urban environment and are judged by an independent panel of experts bringing together industry experience and market knowledge.
Powell Hall and Whitehorn Hall have also been shortlisted for the RICS Social Impact Awards. Judged and voted on by an expert panel of RICS members and industry experts, the projects have been selected for the significant value they have brought to the communities around them. Winners will be announced next month.
HLM associate Ross Barrett said: “St Andrews is an internationally renowned university that prides itself on its traditions and commitment to education, our design was driven by our ambition to deliver the ultimate student experience.
We wanted to create unique spaces that would allow the students to prosper in an environment that felt supportive and comfortable, while retaining the traditional values it’s built on. To be recognised for these project’s positive impact by such prestigious awards is incredibly rewarding.”
Both projects are part of the largest single expansion of student residences in St Andrews for over a decade. HLM has created spaces that built on the university’s traditional values, while providing world-class, memorable accommodation with the student experience at its heart.
