Home extension hotspots of Scotland revealed in Great British Build-Out study
Greater Glasgow’s leafy Bearsden and commuter town of Giffnock have been crowned Scotland’s home extension hotspots in new research from online architecture platform Resi.co.uk.
Collating a sample of over 10,000 nationwide enquiries - from Cornwall to the Orkney Isles - between November 2016 and March 2018, Resi has produced one of the most in-depth studies ever of British extension habits.
It shows over half of people have looked to extend their ground floor to add an extra kitchen or entertainment space, with just over a quarter opting to consider a larger two-storey extension, while around 10 percent are hoping to add space to their loft.
According to the research, the average extension demand density across Great Britain is between 0.05 and 0.11 per sqkm.
However, residents in Bearsden and Giffnock are 12 times more likely to dream of extending their home than the average UK homeowner and 20 times more likely to be considering a home extension than the average Glaswegian.
