Homes application lodged for Glenisla Hotel

Plans have been submitted for four homes to be built as the site of the Glenisla Hotel in Angus.

Homes application lodged for Glenisla Hotel

The once-popular hotel closed at the end of January due to a lack of customers after only recently undergone a £750,000 refurbishment which increased the capacity of the hotel from six to ten bedrooms.

The London-based owner of the hotel said the impact of the coronavirus pandemic had signalled the end for the “unsustainable” business.

Residents in the Kirkton of Glenisla area have voiced concerns that the loss of the hotel will tear the heart out of the community, The Courier reports.

Developer Bruce Swan purchased the hotel back in 2014 and was a silent partner in the business which was operated by a local couple before the breakdown of the relationship in 2017.

That was followed by a year-long closure during which the refurbishment of the property took place. The refurbishment saw the hotel become more popular with tourists visiting the Angus and Perthshire glens including the Cateran Train.

Angus councillors are still due to consider the application, however, Mr Swan said there had been no interested from prospective buyers since the hotel was listed on the market in March 2019. The hotel was on sale for the price of £400,000.
