Hostel plan shelved for Ashfield House in Glasgow
Hotel group Accor has cancelled plans to transform Glasgow’s Ashfield House into an 89-room hostel.
Planning permission for the B-listed hostel on Sauchiehall Street was originally granted, subject to conditions, by Glasgow City Council in June 2019.
The six-storey Edwardian Baroque red sandstone building would have been the first UK property under Accor’s JO&JOE brand – a new “open house” concept targeting millennials that “blends the best of private rental, hostel and hotel formats”.
However, the three-year planning consent lapsed in June of this year.
The plans would have seen the building converted and refurbished to become a hostel providing 89 bedrooms, a bar/restaurant at ground floor and a rear terrace.
