Hotel plans for Glasgow’s former Dunnes Stores building withdrawn
An application to transform the former Dunnes Stores on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street into a 112-bed hotel have been withdrawn.
Manor Property Group lodged its proposal for the conversion and change of use of the building at 218-224 Sauchiehall Street into a full-service budget boutique Qtel hotel and all day café/restaurant in August last year.
But Glasgow City Council’s planning portal has now been updated to show the proposal has been withdrawn.
Mark Bailey, director of Manor Property Group, said at the time that the delivery of a Qtel to this location will save the building, provide a new purpose for it, enhance its appearance and create 50 FTE jobs.
Mosaic Architecture + Design was the practice behind the application.
Built in 1929, the existing building was known affectionately to many Glaswegians as the C&A department store.
