Housing plans progress with Glasgow hospital land sale agreement

Blawarthill Hospital homesGlasgow City Council has approved the sale of land at a former hospital to Yoker Housing Association paving the way for new homes to be developed at the site.

The Association will pay the council £100,000 for part of the site which was previously home to Blawarthill Hospital.

The land at Dyke Road / Holehouse Road is 1.62 acres in size and includes a two-storey C-listed building dating from 1897.

Yoker Housing Association intends to build a residential scheme featuring 10 houses (a mix of two and three apartment homes) and nine flats for affordable social rent.

The council, which acquired the entire site back in February, plans to develop a new 70-bed social work care home on another part of the site.

The proposed housing development will see the complete demolition of the former hospital, save for the C-listed original building, and has been designed by Grant Murray Architects to marry with the planned care home.

Plans for 15 new homes at the site were lodged on behalf of the Association in November last year but it is understood the proposals have been increased to 19.

Councillor Kenny McLean, city convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm, said: “The disposal of this site is good news for the city, bringing both a contribution to public finances and creating more affordable homes in Glasgow. We can all look forward to the development of this site, which will bring a piece of vacant land back into use.”
