hub West Scotland launches appeal to provide Glasgow children living in poverty with warm winter jackets
As temperatures begin to plummet, it is hard to imagine children in Glasgow without winter jackets to keep them warm in the freezing months to come.
However, in reality one in three are currently living in poverty in Glasgow.
This winter, hub West Scotland is once again launching its Winter Warmer appeal, with their charity partner PEEK, (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid), a charity which works to improve the life chances of children and young people living in the Glasgow area. The appeal asks companies to donate children’s winter jackets and wellington boots.
hub West Scotland had great response to their appeal last year, donating over 220 jackets, wellington boots and selection boxes to PEEK. This year hub West Scotland is asking for help from companies in the construction industry to make its appeal even bigger, so it can provide even more children with winter jackets and wellington boots they desperately need.
Scottish Government figures state there are 240,000 children living in poverty in Scotland. Glasgow has significantly high levels of child poverty, with one in three children living in poverty.
With the help of their supply chain partners and other companies in the construction industry, hub West Scotland hopes to help PEEK provide much needed practical support to children living in poverty in Glasgow.
Iain Marley, CEO of hub West Scotland, said: “Last year we were overwhelmed with the response to our Winter Warmer Appeal. It’s a daunting thought that children in Glasgow don’t have the warmth of a winter jacket in this freezing weather.
“We’re asking for support from companies in the construction industry, whether it be small donations or large, so together we can support our charity partner PEEK in providing more local children with essential winter jackets and wellington boots this winter.”
Michaela Collins, CEO of PEEK, said: “We’re delighted to hear hub West Scotland are launching their Winter Warmer Appeal again this year. This appeal makes a real difference to children in the local area.
“Every day we hear from families struggling with the challenges of living in poverty and children who are not getting equal chances as their peers. It is generous appeals like this that make our work possible, the donated warm jackets and footwear will allow children to enjoy the magic of play over the winter.”
Donations of children’s winter jackets and wellington boots are required for age 2 – 16 years. If your company would like to contribute, please drop off your donation, including your company name, to hub West Scotland’s office at 6th Floor, Merchant Exchange, 20 Bell Street, Glasgow, G1 1LG by Friday 29th November.
