In Pictures: BOHO unveils first glimpse of Glasgow boutique student residence
Glasgow-based property operator BOHO is to manage a new student accommodation on Woodlands Road, Glasgow.
BOHO also operates the award-winning accommodation Scotway House next the Riverside Museum which is sold out for its third year running.
Property developer Urban Pulse is currently restoring the 125-year-old former Woodside Public School into a small and elegant 67-bed student residence. The restoration is creating over 100 construction-related jobs and eight jobs once operational.
The vacant building at 333 Woodlands Road was most recently home to the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) which has moved to a new purpose-built centre at Landressy Street, Glasgow.
The building will comprise mostly self-contained loft apartments, some with exceptional mezzanine spaces, as well as unique two-bedroom apartments, as well as communal areas to study and socialise - appealing to individual students seeking a secure, gated, quiet and peaceful environment for their studies.
The team have unveiled a first glimpse of what some of the mezzanine apartments will look like once complete.
The idyllic location is immediately adjacent to the University of Glasgow with a range of amenities close by including Kelvingrove Park on its doorstep.
Once open, the building will have CCTV and 24/7 staff. It also will bring more consumers to the neighbourhood.
Gillian Sloan, head of operations & business development at BOHO, said: “We are thrilled to be managing Woodside Lofts which will be BOHO’s second property in Glasgow. It’s amazing to see such a beautiful historic building being restored to retain many of its original features. The studios and apartments on offer will be among the most unique and luxurious spaces in the city, some split over two levels with mezzanine bedrooms. We would like to reach out to any local artists, suppliers or businesses that would like to work with us – we really can’t wait to become part of the Woodlands community.”
BOHO recently received recognition for being the first student accommodation to install an energy management and resident wellbeing solution which aims to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions of their buildings by 20%.
The state-of-the-art technology is also being installed in Woodside Lofts reduce the building’s carbon footprint and maximise energy efficiencies. This includes multi-sensors which measure temperature, light, CO2, noise, motion and occupancy to ensure optimum living conditions and reduced energy consumption.
The Woodside development has previously received support from councillors and locals alike since earlier planning stages.
Councillor Hanzala Malik said: “I am quite impressed with the plans. This building used to be a school and I am happy it is going to continue to be used as an educational establishment.”
The Stand Comedy Club which recently re-opened following it’s temporary closure due to the pandemic, is staying put in the basement level of the building.
The renovation is set to be complete by July 2023 and BOHO will welcome its first student residents in September 2023.
