In Pictures: WJ celebrates hidden beauty of working on UK’s highways
Line marking and road safety specialist WJ Group has shared a series of images taken by its employees in celebration of the hidden perks of working in construction.
The images, which show the beauty of maintaining the UK’s roads, showcase the country’s charm – from the mountains of Scotland to stunning sunsets across the English countryside – as WJ looks to encourage more younger people to consider a career in the highways and wider construction industry.
Earlier this year, the Construction Skills Network (CSN) report suggested that around 251,000 new construction workers are needed by 2028 to fill demand, with repair and maintenance one of the three major sectors requiring recruitment. WJ specialises in a wide range of road maintenance, repair and improvement work and is expected to continue playing a significant role in the industry’s future.
By sharing images by from its employees, WJ is hoping to inspire the next generation to consider a career in construction.
Steph Wheat, head of people at WJ Group, said: “Working in the construction industry is incredibly rewarding – whether that’s in infrastructure, housing or on a highways project. We know this because we see our team working hard all year round to ensure that we’re successful in providing what our communities need. When we asked our team to send us their pictures from working on the road network, we were inundated with their favourite views from across the UK and Ireland.
“From the magical Northern Lights to striking images overlooking the landscape where they work, our team understands the significant impact they have on the UK. Now, we want to share some of those images and use it as an opportunity to celebrate working in construction as well as our brilliant team.”
WJ will be hosting the images on its website and is now calling on other organisations in the construction industry to follow suit and share pictures from their own teams.
