Aberdeen City Council’s Finance and Resources Committee has agreed an update on the project which is being carried out due to an increase in demand for services and activities at the centre.

Councillor Alex McLellan, convener of the Finance and Resource Committee, said: “Aberdeen City Council is committed to delivering the extension to Inchgarth Community Centre and I am pleased that works are provisionally pencilled in to begin Spring 2025.

“This project, funded by both Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Government, will ensure Inchgarth Community Centre continues to be a real asset to the local community.”

Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “It is great that work is now scheduled to build the extension to Inchgarth Community Centre

“The place has become a busy, thriving hub of positive activity. It is a real focus for local people where they can get together and enjoy a wide range of activities.

“I am pleased that we can support Garthdee residents with this important project.”

The report to committee said the council was successful in securing £1.9 million from the Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) in June 2023.

The expectation is construction works would commence in Spring 2025 and practical completion would be achieved in Spring 2026. There would be a fit-out required to the extension after practical completion.

The report to the committee said there are still pressures in the building trade which could affect the final cost such as inflation, energy supply, Covid-19 impacts, the war in Ukraine, Red Sea disruption and Brexit. Close collaboration is being maintained with finance colleagues.
