The scheme is unique in Scotland with the council’s Affordable Warmth team bringing together six different funding streams to realise the project.

The project completes the upgrading of homes in the Toryglen area, and will mean improved homes for local residents, reducing energy bills through measures such as external wall insulation and new roofs, and will meet current and future housing standards.

These homes are located immediately beside those being delivered through the Toryglen Transformational Regeneration Area (TRA) project, and the work will enhance and complement the TRA investment and the wider regeneration of Toryglen.

The partners in this project are Glasgow City Council, Thistle Housing Association, E.ON Energy Solutions and the Scottish Government. Thistle Housing Association will be working with E.ON to deliver this energy efficiency and repairs programme.

Leader of Glasgow City Council, Councillor Frank McAveety, said: “This project takes a bold approach to transforming these homes in Toryglen, improving people’s lives and their communities. I am delighted that the partners have devised such an imaginative solution to bringing together all the funding that will allow this work to take place, and welcome the Scottish Government’s involvement in this unique initiative. This could be a blueprint for future schemes.”

We know from the first phase of 1033 homes that not only are homes much warmer but there are significant savings to be made in energy bills.”

This project will complete the upgrading of all of Thistle Housing Association’s 1733 homes in Toryglen, complementing their associated maintenance programme.

Grant support will be available to local owner-occupiers to help them participate in the works programme.

This project is the latest in a number of Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Warmth schemes across the city that in 2014 alone improved the fabric of 1512 private sector and 2183 social housing properties, saving over 122,000 tonnes of lifetime carbon. This new project could save householders upwards of £145 annually or they could benefit from increased comfort conditions in their home.
