Jedburgh pump track & skate park opens to the public

An official opening has taken place to mark the completion of the brand-new Jedburgh pump track & skate park.

Elected members and local residents gathered at the newly constructed facility earlier this month to mark the occasion and see first-hand the work undertaken.

The facility features a state-of-the-art asphalt 100m long pump track and adjoining concrete skate park which is the first hybrid park of its kind in Scotland. The park is floodlit to allow for year-round use of the park.

The pump track consists of berms and rollers with feature heights up to 1.3m making it accessible to learners as well as providing a challenge for more advanced riders. The skatepark consists of a street course which includes key features such as the flat bank gap, ledges, grind rails and quarter pipe transitions that link into the pump track.

It has been delivered by contractors Velosultions and Betongpark respectively who are industry leaders in the design and construction of skate park and pump tracks.

The total investment made by Scottish Borders Council for this project totalled £390k and has been funded through the council’s Capital Programme for Play Areas and Community Outdoor Spaces.

The prioritised capital investment programme was agreed for the period 2022-2029 with play facility upgrades being planned in consultation with communities across a range of sites.

It will see an investment of almost £5 million to enhance these facilities for current and future generations, providing significant play opportunities for all.

Councillor John Greenwell, portfolio holder for Roads and Public Space Development, said: “Residents of Jedburgh have waited patiently for this project to come to fruition, but the wait is finally over and I’m absolutely confident that this state-of-the-art skate park and pump track will prove to be a much-loved and well-used facility.

“We are excited for the local community of Jedburgh that this long-awaited project is now completed and that children and young people can get the benefits of it.

“The facility is of the highest standard and importantly provides greater play opportunities for our young folk. Yet again this is another prime example of the investment SBC is committing to expanding and improving the play parks infrastructure across the region.”
