JR Group marks completion of Link development
Paisley-based construction firm The JR Group is celebrating the completion of a landmark inner-city development in Glasgow’s East End.
The 68 homes for social rent on Olympia Street in Bridgeton were built by the company on behalf of Link Group.
The development, which was under construction for a total of 19 months, is now fully occupied with residents welcomed into their homes during the first half of the year.
Set across four apartment blocks – all varying in scale – the collection of affordable homes includes 24 amenity properties, six of which were designed and built with wheelchair access in mind.
As well as parking provision, residents also enjoy access to a common landscaped garden at the centre of the development.
The JR Group, which works closely with Link Group on a range of projects, has released imagery and drone footage of the site which was brought to life thanks to a host of key subcontracting partners and suppliers.
John Murdoch, construction director, admitted that work on the development was not without its challenges – but is exceptionally proud of the finished product.
He said: “When we took on the development at Olympia Street, we were conscious of just how tight the site itself was, but we relish a challenge – especially one that presents an opportunity to work on a project that will leave a substantial legacy.
“The vision behind Olympia Street was to create a sustainable collection of residences that people would really want to live in. And, with the homes aimed at people with diverse yet specific needs, there was a real chance to use innovative design and construction technology to ensure the finished development was as integrated as possible and set up to be enjoyed by future generations.
“In Olympia Street, we are proud to have built an exemplar model of affordable inner-city housing with a distinct sense of place.”
