JR Scaffold completes work on Gogar Tram Depot
JR Scaffold has completed a milestone project at Gogar Tram Depot in Edinburgh, supporting the over-cladding of its roof.
The project which took four weeks for the complete scaffold build, consisted of the erection of approximately 2,000 square metres of scaffolding along 150 linear metres of edge protection as well as a staircase and a loading bay.
The project, undertaken by the JR Scaffold team on behalf of Pro Industrial Roofing allowed for the complete over-cladding of the roof to tackle water ingress issues.
The tram system, which was officially launched in 2014, has become an iconic part of Edinburgh life. The project was not without its challenges to overcome as a result of its proximity to Edinburgh airport and its runway, the live electricity lines overhead and the moving trams operating throughout the works.
With work now complete, the four-strong scaffold team has handed the site back over to the contractors.
Brian Keaney, contracts supervisor for JR Scaffold, led the project for the business.
He said: ‘’We are very pleased to have worked on the Gogar Tram depot – Edinburgh’s tram system is synonymous with our capital city, so it was great to see it all in action.
“This project was challenging from a scaffold perspective as each section required its own permit and we had to work to very tight deadlines due to the strict isolation times for the electricity to be turned off, but we’re delighted with the job we have handed over to our client.”
