JR Scaffold Services completes town centre cladding project in Arbroath

JR Scaffold Services has completed work on a town centre roofing project at The Corn Exchange, a JD Wetherspoons pub and restaurant in Arbroath, on behalf of its client Castlecourt Construction.

The Paisley-based scaffold business worked on the landmark building in the town’s Market Place, as part of its second project working alongside JD Wetherspoons and Castlecourt Construction, and was tasked with installing a full perimeter access scaffold to allow for the full over clad of the building’s old asbestos roof.

Across the four-week install project, a three-strong team from JR Scaffold installed around 1,300 sq/m of scaffold on the external of the building, with around 480 cubic meters used in the internal roof space to create a large bird cage scaffold to allow for internal structural roofing work to take place.

Due to the complex location of the project, a narrow-width scaffold was required to build off a steel staircase at the rear of the building as no flat ground was available. This was followed by an engineer-designed beam section which was bracketed off the structural wall of the building to bridge over neighbouring roofs.

As one of only a small number of asbestos ancillary license holders in Scotland, JR Scaffold Services was selected for this specialist project due to their 15 years of expertise and training regarding handling asbestos materials safely.

John Jack, contract director at JR Scaffold Services, said: “We handed this project to our colleague Brian Keaney as his very first job as a Contract Manager and we’re delighted with the job that he and his team have delivered.

“Even with some of the complexities involved, Brian and his team have taken his first project in his stride and helped us continue to build our great relationship with the team at Castlecourt Construction.

“This job had unique complexities due to the tight workspace and asbestos exposure however our team are well equipped to handle such things on behalf of our clients with ease and our experience in these areas served us well here.”
