Just a Minute with Ryan Davies
CRD Property Ltd director, Ryan Davies, takes part in our Just A Minute feature.
How did you get started in the industry? I followed in my father’s footsteps. He is a plasterer to trade and on leaving school, I started a plastering apprenticeship.
Biggest professional achievement: Becoming a director of a Limited Company has to be my biggest professional achievement to date. I am proud to be at the helm of CRD Property Renovations and Reinstatements Limited.
Best advice you received: I would refer back to advice received from my wise dad; “Lead by example”—I respect my staff, show them positive behaviour and attitude and I continually work hard to a leader not a boss.
What do you like most about your job? The before and after results on our completed reinstatements. It makes me proud to be the leader of a talented team.
And the least? The obstacles to overcome in meeting deadlines - materials shortages, unexpected staff illness resulting in labour shortage etc. However, these this is part and parcel of the business and we always get there.
What is the most important part of the industry? The provision and renovation of important buildings; schools, hospitals and the many buildings which benefit our communities.
If you could change one thing in construction, what would it be? Possibly reforming the payment system to crackdown on poor or non-payment.
What are the biggest challenges your firm has faced since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic? Staff shortage due to the spread of the virus.
Has anything changed for the better? Yes, our staff were happy to return to work after the lockdown boredom and they value their job that little bit more. In addition, jobs postponed during the pandemic have now been rescheduled so we are extremely busy.
How do you receive your industry news? Well of course are subscribed to Scottish Construction Now, online news, social media, current news and legislation.
How would you change Scottish Construction Now? I believe that you are good at what you do and there are no notable changes I would make.
Which social media sites do you find the most useful? We use Facebook and Linkedin and find these useful in being active and supportive within our local community. We recently sponsored primary seven leavers hoodies for a local primary school and football strips for a local football team having identified their search for sponsorship on social media. We also share our news stories to allow our clients and contacts to keep up to date with all that is going on behind the scenes in CRD.
Hobbies and interests: Having just become a dad for the first time, my baby son is my current focus. I am a keen golfer, biker and I love to travel.
Favourite holiday destination: I have been lucky enough to travel throughout most of the world. My favourite destination would be the Philippines where my mum comes from and where most of my family currently still live. It is a beautiful part of the world and the people are so welcoming.
