The golf club, which has been part of the city’s sporting landscape for more than 100 years, has taken on board feedback from previous public forums as it moves towards lodging an in-principle planning application with Perth and Kinross Council.

The vision to revitalise the ailing club and secure its future hinges on a reconfigured nine-hole course, with wider sporting and leisure opportunities financed by an element of housing on the northern edge of the current 18-hole course.

In addition to meeting the demand for a nine-hole golf course in the city, the project entails extensive woodland planting, amenity space, ancillary sporting offerings, upgraded access arrangements and additional footpath and cycling routes to enhance the existing network.

Club members will be given a progress briefing at the Hill clubhouse on Wednesday, August 14. The public will have an opportunity to hear the proposed plans at the Open Days which will be taking place at Craigie Hill Golf Club on:

• Thursday August 15 from 2pm - 8pm
• Sunday August 18 from 1pm - 4pm

This week, members began delivering nearly 200 information posters to nearby homes, highlighting the events.

Last year, a Craigie Hill campaign was launched, and a Proposal of Application Notice was lodged with the local authority.

The golf club, in a partnership with Tayside groundworks specialist Kilmac, unveiled a development blueprint designed to preserve a city institution dating back to 1911 and benefit the wider community long into the future.

Kilmac is headed up by Perth resident and long-time Craigie Hill member Athole McDonald.

Dave Mitchell, club captain and board member, said: “Since we first mapped out our vision to ensure golf continued at Craigie Hill for future generations to enjoy – as part of a broader leisure offering – we have taken account of public feedback and are working closely with our community partners and sporting stakeholders.

“The second round of public briefings will include a more detailed view of the proposed new course lay-out and clubhouse, which will be refurbished to provide a business and sporting community hub encouraging a wider range of leisure activities on Craigie Hill and the adjacent Buckie Braes.

“The club is confident we have addressed the main issues which arose from the previous events.

“We remain committed to full transparency and engaging with the community. We are looking forward to welcoming good turnouts at both Open Days.”

Mr Mitchell said the club embraced concerns expressed by Fair City residents who have suffered distressing flood damage in recent years by immediately postponing promotion of the project and engaging directly with Perth Community Flood Aid and Flood Action Group Perth.

He said: “This has led to an independent flood report, which in conjunction with further design, offers welcome reassurance that any development on Craigie Hill will not risk any additional flooding in the area. All the information will be shared at the Open Days.

“Following feedback from meetings last year the club and Kilmac have also amended and reduced the housing element of the plan.

“The 175 homes now being proposed are a mix of two-, three, four-and five-bedroom properties, including 33 bungalows and 43 much-needed affordable houses.”
