Tayside construction company Kilmac has reported a nine per cent drop in turnover for the year ending September 2019 due to a slowdown in work.

The firm’s turnover fell from £14.2 million in 2017/18 to £12.9 million in 2018/19, while pre-tax profits fell from £302,107 to £147,924, The Courier reports.

Group director Athole Mcdonald said: “Most of our work is repeat business with select clients and when their work slows down then it does affect us too.

“However, this has led us to expand our reach into the central belt, although our primary focus remains on Tayside.”

Kilmac’s move to a new Dundee headquarters last July had also required capital spend, he said.

At the end of September 2019, Kilmac had 86 staff, including four directors, 41 staff employed in direct labour roles and 41 office staff, with total staff costs of £3.3 million.
