Kirkwood Homes gets green light for Sauchen development
Councillors have approved plans for 27 new homes in the Aberdeenshire village of Sauchen.
About this development:
- Authority:Aberdeenshire
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:Kirkwood Homes (developer)
Kirkwood Homes will deliver the properties and associated infrastructure next to the Cluny Burn in the eastern part of the village.
Six of the homes will be classed as affordable.
The development is a direct replacement for a similar proposal put forward by Stewart Milne Homes for which consent was granted in June 2016.
Flooding concerns had been raised, with the Cluny, Midmar and Monymusk Community Council warning that the current flood risk assessment, which was carried out in 2012, may no longer be fit for purpose.
Community council chairman Richard Fyffe told the local authority’s Garioch area committee: “We like to make clear this is not an attempt to block the scheme, but it is imperative before planning is granted that certain elements require urgent attention.
“The last flood risk assessment was seven years ago, and since then Sauchen was effectively cut off during Storm Frank.”
But Bruce Strachan, senior planning officer at Aberdeenshire Council, said the flood risk assessment was still valid.
The committee approved the development on condition that SEPA was contacted for clarification about the “alleged land raising and impact on the flood risk assessment” before work starts.
