Located off Springfield Road and Springhill Road, the site consists of former agricultural land of Netherton Farm, which forms part of the Barrhead South Masterplan and is one of the three Strategic Development Opportunities (SDO) promoted in the East Renfrewshire Local Development Plan, with the capacity for around 1,000 new homes.

This development in Barrhead represents a significant investment in the local area by Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, and will deliver a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes in a variety of styles and sizes to appeal to a wide range of customers. There will also be 25 new homes for social rent in the form of cottage flats, semi-detached and terraced new homes, together with a choice of low-cost homes which will be available for sale.

As part of a Section 75 legal agreement with East Renfrewshire Council, the development will also deliver a range of community benefits including financial contributions of over £2 million towards the costs of education, community facilities, parks, open spaces and the Dams to Darnley Country Park. This funding will also go towards providing sustainable transport links and a commuted sum for affordable housing within East Renfrewshire.

The development will retain a great variety of the existing local features, including the ecologically rich amenity space around Spierston Burn, which flows through the middle of the development, and the existing Johnny Blue’s Well located off Springfield Road. The detailed design also includes the provision of two new equipped play areas and a wide variety of new landscaping.

This development will also boast a design that aims to create a sense of place and maximises the latest Scottish Government Planning Policy for ‘Designing Streets’ where new homes will be carefully positioned to create interest and character. This includes homes that have a dual aspect in order to maximise views over the surrounding countryside, the existing burn corridor, the public open space, as well as overlooking the public streets.

Caroline Proctor, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, added: “We are very pleased to have acquired the land at Springfield Road and Springhill Road and to now be gearing up for our operation to start construction of our first development in Barrhead. This key development cements our commitment to the wider East Renfrewshire area.

“As well as an impressive range of new homes, our development will provide a range of economic benefits for the local Barrhead area which includes supporting in the region of around 50 direct and indirect jobs per year of development, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses.

“We believe this development will be a great addition to the local area, and it complements our other local developments at nearby Neilston and Maidenhill. Pre-construction works will begin in the next few weeks.”
