Liberty House Group awards Scottish transport contract
Sam Anderson (Newhouse) Ltd, part of the Anderson Group, has won a major contract to be the sole transport provider for Liberty House Group’s steel interests in Scotland.
The contract means that the firm will provide all transport services for the Dalzell steelworks in Motherwell and the Clydebridge plant in Cambuslang, fulfilling Liberty House’s undertaking to use locally based suppliers and securing employment in the area.
Sam Anderson (Newhouse) Ltd has enjoyed a long association with the steel industry in Scotland and has worked closely with the various owners of the Dalzell steelworks for over 50 years.
Robert Smith, transport general manager at Sam Anderson (Newhouse) Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have won this contract with Liberty House and look forward to working with them for many years to come. When they took over the operation of the Scottish steel interests from Tata Steel in April they promised to use locally based suppliers and their decision to appoint our company fulfils that promise and is a positive decision for the area securing substantial employment both directly for the 100 employees based at Newhouse and indirectly for many more people in the area.
“The continuation of steel production is extremely important for the wider Scottish economy and the Anderson Group is delighted to be part of the continuation of this important and historic industry.”
Irvine Anderson, group chief executive of the £240m a year turnover Anderson Group, added: “I am delighted that we are continuing our connection with the steel industry which was begun by my grandfather Sam over half a century ago. I look forward to our relationship with Liberty House going from strength to strength and continuing for many years to come.”
