17-19 Union Terrace

A buyer is being sought for the historical landmark Category B Listed property at 17-19 Union Terrace in Aberdeen.

Savills, acting jointly with FG Burnett, has been tasked with the launch.

Niall Macleod of Savills Development team said: “This opportunity is being brought to the market, just as Union Terrace Gardens nears completion: its new occupiers will greatly benefit from the fantastic amenity and green space being created here in the city centre.

“The property offers huge potential for a variety of uses and is a key opportunity within the Aberdeen City Centre Masterplan area.”

The Renaissance-style building was designed by prominent local architect William Kelly in 1895. It opened as the headquarters of the New Aberdeen Savings Bank for ‘receiving such small sums as may be saved from the earnings tradesmen, mechanics, labourers, servants, etc.’

The façade of the original building encompasses a grand, double-height banking hall and ornate architectural features, with office and residential accommodation on the upper floors. There is also a substantial basement, offering a variety of rooms.

Niall Macleod said: “Aberdeen City Council have committed to a range of projects in the city centre which will greatly enhance this area and the re-purposing of 17 – 19 Union Terrace offers a great opportunity to be part of this exciting regeneration of our city centre.”

Graeme Nisbet, director, FG Burnett, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for a developer to acquire a high profile building which offers a number of alternative uses. UTG offers excellent connectivity to a several landmarks within the city centre and following completion of the Gardens the subject will feature in a sought after location.”
