Scottish engineering firm Luddon Construction has been awarded a multi-million pound contract by INEOS at Grangemouth to deliver civil engineering works associated with their £300 million Ethane Supply Project.

The Ethane Supply Project, due for completion in 2016, will allow INEOS to import, store and utilise competitive US shale gas ethane. The Luddon Construction scope of the project will include the installation of 3,000 cubic metres of concrete pipetrack supports and associated civil works (1500 piles) that are integral to the overall project.

Robert Hamilton, O&P UK procurement manager, INEOS, said: “Following a rigorous tender process we are delighted to announce that the civil contract for the main pipeline civil works associated with the ethane supply project has been awarded to a local company, Luddon Construction. We anticipate that the contract will provide employment for between 80 and 120 local people over the course of the contract.”

Alan MacMillan, O&P UK ethane project manager, INEOS, said: “We were very impressed with the bid from Luddon particularly the use of their site knowledge to offer improvement opportunities technically and commercially for the works. Luddon has a great record of delivering projects at the Grangemouth site with an excellent safety record. We look forward to working with Luddon Construction in delivering this vital project for INEOS and the UK petrochemical industry.”

Charlie Frize, managing director of Luddon Construction, added: “We are extremely pleased to be working with INEOS on what is one of the most important engineering projects currently underway in the UK petrochemicals industry. We have demonstrated that we have the drive and skilled employees to deliver the scope of the civil works to the highest of construction and safety standards.”
