Lynne Peacock: CIOB Scotland Awards are open for entries

Lynne Peacock

Lynne Peacock is part of the Chartered Institute of Building’s Member Services team based in Scotland and is urging nominations for this year’s coveted CIOB Scotland Awards.

The time has come for us to discover and reward the most talented built environment professionals across Scotland.

Every year, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) holds a prestigious awards ceremony to celebrate the champions of the Scottish construction sector.

It is an opportunity for professionals to gain recognition for their work and, of course, I want as many people to throw their names in the hat as possible.

There are seven awards up for grabs, including the prestigious Project Manager of the Year, and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in October.

Inclusivity is always at the top of the agenda for CIOB and the awards are no different – so we have picked a range of categories which I believe gives everyone in the industry a chance to be celebrated. We welcome nominations for both members and non-members of CIOB.

Other categories open for submissions are:

  • Graduate of the Year
  • Innovation Leader of the Year
  • Project Professional of the Year
  • Open Award (CIOB Family)
  • Scottish Trailblazer of the Year
  • Site Manager of the Year

This will be the third event of its kind since we changed the awards format to a gala lunch. Last year’s competition saw 35 top-quality nominations go head-to-head, but I am hoping for even more candidates in 2024.

I have been overwhelmed with some of the incredible feedback we have had from award winners and how their victories have had such a positive impact on their careers.

Brian Gallacher, of Pacific Building Ltd won an award in 2023 and told me: “Having had the privilege of addressing members at last year’s ceremony – when I was honoured to receive an award from my peers – I am looking forward immensely to attending this year’s event which, again, celebrates the very best in our industry.

“My company has been a Chartered construction business and CIOB training partner for nearly 20 years, and we are proud of our association with the organisation, which inspires all of us to be – and do – the very best that we possibly can.”

There is a lot of publicity work which goes on behind the scenes here at CIOB, so winning an award is an incredible opportunity to get your name and project shared amongst some of the most recognised members of the construction sector.

One of the aspects I have most enjoyed is the chance to network with like-minded construction professionals. Even if you don’t win or you’re not even up for an award, this unique ceremony is a rare occasion where lots of our industry leaders are gathered in one place.

Nominating someone is simple and can be done by filling out an online form. If you believe your colleague is worthy of one of this year’s accolades, please feel free to email me before the end of May at lynne.peacock@ciob.org.uk and I will gladly share a nomination form with you.

The final ceremony will be held at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on 11 October. This year’s sponsors are Contract Scotland and Competence Matters. You can find out more about the event, including ticketing details, here.

Finally, the very best of luck to everyone who is put forward for an award this year.
