Malcolm Group reports rise in turnover and dip in profits

The logistics and construction services business said its annual results were “robust” against the backdrop of the Beast from the East weather phenomenon experienced last year.

Malcolm Group posted group turnover at £221 million for the year to January 31 2019, against £213m the year before.

The company said group operating profit before exceptional items was £9.4m, compared to £9.9m in the previous year.

The group includes WH Malcolm business, in which turnover was £206m against £200m the previous year and operating profit before exceptional items was £8.9m compared to the year before at £9.7m.

The group profit after tax was £3.6m against £5.1m in the previous year.

Andrew Malcolm, group chief executive, told The Herald: “Turnover in both our logistics division and our construction services and waste management division increased.

He said that the operating profit signalled “a robust performance in the face of a competitive trading landscape in both sectors and the extreme weather conditions experienced in February and March 2018”.

He added: “Going into the new financial year, results in both the logistics and construction services divisions in the first few months are in line with our expectations.”
