A father-of-two who died after trying to walk across the A90 in the middle of the night has been named by police as Mearns businessman Barry McRae.

The 34 year-old, who owned building firm B McRae Contractors, was killed after being hit by a car on the northbound carriageway of the Aberdeen to Dundee road at about 2.30am on Friday.

A Police Scotland investigation is under way to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy, with witnesses stating Mr McRae was naked when the collision occurred.

It is understood that his Audi was parked on the embankment of the southbound side of the A90, near Stracathro, at the time of the accident.

He left the vehicle and crossed the dual carriageway before being hit by a car.

The A90 was closed for more than 12 hours afterwards as crash investigators worked to determine what happened. Police also shut the road between the B966 turn-off for Edzell at Keithock and the B974 Luthermuir road.

Mr McRae married his wife Amanda in 2011 and has two daughters, aged seven and three.
