Maxi Caledonian profits up as turnover surpasses £100 million

Maxi Caledonian, the Irvine-based haulage and construction group, has exceeded £100 million in turnover for the first time.

The company reported increased profits and turnover despite challenging trading conditions in the year ending 30 September 2023. Pre-tax profits rose to £4.44m, and turnover reached £101.8m.

Maxi’s haulage division, serving supermarkets and commercial vehicle parts suppliers, saw turnover increase to £80.9m. However, pre-tax profits in this division dropped to £2.7 million due to difficult market conditions, including numerous insolvencies and excess driver supply.

Maxi Construction reported a “satisfactory” pre-tax profit of £2m, with turnover surging to £20.7m.

Gerry Atkinson, Maxi’s long-standing owner, confirmed his semi-retirement and the appointment of his son, Richard, as deputy chairman, The Herald reports.

Richard will oversee the haulage division, IT, insurance, and logistics contracts.

Mr Atkinson, who turned 80 this year, emphasised that he has no plans to fully retire and will remain involved in the business.
