McLaughlin & Harvey expands Central England presence with Birmingham stadium transformation
McLaughlin & Harvey has announced its expansion into Central England, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing regional growth strategy.
The construction and civil engineering contractor has opened a new office in Birmingham city centre, employing a dedicated team of over 15 professionals.
Complementing this expansion, the business has recently made two senior hires, welcoming Simon Humphrey and Paul Davenport as project directors. Both appointments bring a wealth of experience from their previous leadership roles in renowned construction firms. Simon has over 28 years of experience in construction, with roles at Bowmore & Kirkland and Wates. Paul brings 36 years of experience in several high-profile construction companies including Balfour Beatty and Galliford Try.
The business is collaborating with clients including BMW and Etex to deliver various regional projects. It has already delivered significant projects in Central England, including collaborating with Coventry University on refurbishing and remodelling the four-storey Maurice Foss building alongside the construction of a state-of-the-art, four-storey teaching facility.
Notably, the company also played an integral role in redeveloping Alexander Stadium in Birmingham ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The team’s work with Alexander Stadium has continued post-Games, with the company’s focus shifting to transforming the stadium’s East and West Stands into state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for Birmingham City University’s Sports Sciences department.
Completed in just seven months, the £4.7 million project has redefined the stadium as a dual-purpose venue, fostering both athletic excellence and academic innovation. The project also demonstrates McLaughlin & Harvey’s dedication to excellence within the region, with a commitment to improving education, and community engagement, as well as contributing to the city’s residents’ future.
McLaughlin & Harvey is also experiencing a surge in demand for its Advanced Manufacturing services, which forms a key driver of growth throughout 2024. The company has provided over 7 million sqft of industrial space nationwide to high-profile clients, including GSK, UPS and Segro.
John Carlin, regional director, McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “We are dedicated to expanding our presence in central England with several projects underway across key regional developments. With a history of delivering high-profile developments across the region, we remain committed to supporting businesses and local communities through our construction and civil engineering expertise.”
