Meet the team providing temporary works solutions for MGF in Scotland
MGF’s Livingston depot has been providing excavation and structural support across Scotland since opening its doors in January 2020.
Located in the central belt, the Scotland depot is able to support the growing needs of the Northern UK construction industry by offering a national service with the support of MGF’s 13 other locations and over 40 years of experience.
Regional manager Cairns Gibson oversees Scotland and North East England and has been with MGF for more than 25 years. Cairns began his time with the company in the Durham depot before instrumentally establishing depots in Yorkshire and Bristol as well as working in Astley for a short time.
Once Cairns returned to Durham, he was asked to support the opening of the new Scotland depot. Cairns now oversees the operations for both depots
“I enjoy having the influence over furthering the development and career of those in my team, seeing them thrive, as well as overcoming the challenges that operations bring.”
With over 30 years’ experience working in the construction industry, commercial manager Alan Best has been focused specifically on the supply of trench and structural support equipment since 1996. Specialising in trench support and temporary work solutions, he joined MGF in March 2022 and heads up a growing team with considerable experience in the industry.
Alan said: “I am delighted to be part of the evolving story here at MGF in Scotland. It’s an exciting time as we continue to add to our already strong and experienced team. We are committed to providing our existing customers with a first-class service and providing market leading and innovative products. We have a local design team in Livingston which is backed by our extensive national engineering resources, who provide first class engineering solutions. We very much look forward to expanding our existing customer base in Scotland and remain firmly focussed on becoming the market leading provider of excavation and structural support equipment along with our range of lifting and safety products.”
Area sales and regional account manager Bob Allan has been associated with the construction industry for 37 years, graduating with a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 1992. Post-graduation, Bob worked onsite as an engineer and agent with Tilbury Douglas Construction for five years before commencing his first sales role in temporary works. Bob has worked in the shoring industry for over 17 years and enjoys delivering a quality service to customers.
“I have experienced a fantastic welcome,” said Bob. “The team ethic is foremost, with a goal of supporting old and new customers alike with effective solutions and quality equipment. There is a willingness to listen and collaborate, strengthening the bond between us as a supplier and our customers. I am looking forward to playing my part in helping MGF grow within Scotland to become the supplier of choice.”
Area sales manager Grant Williamson has over 10 years’ experience working in the Scottish construction industry and joined MGF in July 2021. Grant now has over 8 years’ experience in temporary works in both structural support and groundworks.
Grant said: “I’m excited to be part of such a great and forward thinking company and being able to promote the benefits of UniShore and sell MGF as a solutions provider to our customers.
“It’s a great challenge to be involved in building and growing the Structural Support business in Scotland and Northern England. The experience, skills and knowledge that was already at MGF has been complimented with recent additions and together we can all move MGF forward and continue to create safe working environments for our customers.”
With 18 years sales experience and 9 years solely in ground shoring and temporary works, Brian Chambers from technical sales was drawn to the industry due to the precise detail that came with the job. In 2014, Brian joined a small team in creating a new independent shoring hire company that was eventually bought out in 2018. This experience enabled him to continue gaining vital product and market knowledge before joining MGF in 2021.
He said: “The Livingston team know what teamwork is. We always work towards the same goal: providing quality service to our customer base, so we are able to offer the complete shoring solution.”
His technical sales colleague Brian Low has over 20 years’ experience in the groundworks and shoring industry. Brian began his career as a yard operative before moving up to yard chargehand whilst gaining leadership skills along the way. He then quickly moved up to foreman where he led his team to an award. As Brian’s knowledge of the industry and equipment grew, he looked for progression to sales as the next path in his career, a path that eventually led to MGF.
Mr Low said: “I’m customer focused and intent on building strong and lasting relationships with our current and new customer base. I’m delighted to have joined such a dynamic and forward-thinking company.”
Hire desk controller Fiona Hill has been working in the proprietary temporary works supply industry for the past 18 years, developing a strong product knowledge and building lasting relationships with colleagues and customers alike. Fiona has been witness to the development of many innovative and specialised products that have entered the hire fleet, used to keep the construction industry safe and efficient.
Fiona added: “Over the past 12 months, I’ve enjoyed speaking to customers both old and new, discussing MGF’s market-leading products. Now that the Scottish team is growing and strengthening, with an experienced Scottish design and sales team, I am looking forward to the continual growth of our depot and to expanding our foothold in the Scottish market.”
