A public memorial to honour lauded Scottish architect Gareth Hoskins will be held this weekend.

The founder of Hoskins Architects died in January aged just 48, after suffering a heart attack at a fencing event in Edinburgh.

His family and colleagues have extended an invitation “to all” to attend the “celebration of his life and outstanding achievements.”

It will take place on Saturday, from 6.30pm at the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

Mr Hoskins’s work left a lasting legacy, with projects including the redevelopment of the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, the Mareel Cinema and Music Venue in Shetland and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

In 2009, his firm won the contract to redevelop Aberdeen Art Gallery.

Among his many accolades was winning the UK Young Architect Of The Year title in 2000, UK Architect Of The Year in 2006 and Scottish Architect Of The Year three years later.

Hoskins Architects collaborated on the design for the Athletes’ Village at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and past projects include the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Berlin City Library.

Those unable to attend, but interested in showing their support, can make donations in lieu of sending flowers to the family or office at the following JustGiving page.
