Midlothian construction business to move into former church
A Midlothian construction business has been granted planning permission to relocate to the former Gorebridge United Free Church.
Rory Joyce, who heads family firm Peter Joyce & Son, submitted a change of use application to repurpose the former church building for offices, a showroom and storage.
Between three and five members of staff will be based in the building, which will be used for office administration, training and the delivery and storage of construction materials.
Midlothian councillors approved the application with the proviso that all construction materials are stored indoors, Edinburgh Live reports.
Planning officers said: “The proposal will provide a sustainable re-use of an existing building and will enable an expanding local business to remain within Gorebridge.
“The nature of the use and the scale of the building will ensure that there will be no detrimental impact on the residential amenity of neighbouring properties.”
