MND charity receives early Christmas present from Persimmon

Persimmon Homes West Scotland has donated £1,000 the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, after announcing the charity as one of its Community Champions.

Persimmon West Scotland managing director Chris Logan met with ex-Scotland rugby international – and former teammate of Doddie Weir – Kenny Logan, to present a cheque to the charity.

Kenny recently cycled from Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh to the Stade de France in Paris, where he delivered the match ball for Scotland v Ireland ahead of their World Cup pool B clash alongside Doddie Weir’s son, Hamish.

Weir, who set up the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation along with some trustees in 2017, passed away last November after living with Motor Neurone Disease for six years.

All proceeds from Kenny’s cycle, currently sitting at over £550,000, will go to the foundation, which funds research into the currently incurable Motor Neurone Disease, as well as offering support to individuals and families living with MND.

Chris Logan, Persimmon East Scotland managing director, said: “We are delighted to support the work of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and their extraordinary efforts to raise funds for research into Motor Neurone Disease.

“Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting good causes and having a positive impact – I can think of no better way to do this than by supporting Doddie’s legacy and the foundation’s work to find a cure for MND.”

Rachel Sharp, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation fundraising manager, added: “Thank you to Persimmon for supporting Kenny Logan’s Challenge and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation with this generous donation. The support we’ve received off the back of Kenny’s challenge has been incredible, and it’s wonderful to see people and businesses from all corners of the UK coming together to help kick MND into touch.

“Donations like this from Persimmon allow My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to invest in vital MND research and take strides towards our vision: A World Free of MND.”
