Modular housing firm Enevate Homes expands with £2.9m investment

Employment and investment minister Tom Arthur MSP with James Hamilton and Dylan Harker of Enevate Homes

Enevate Homes, a modular housing manufacturer with a factory in Wishaw, has announced a £2.9 million investment in its staff, plant, and equipment to facilitate significant expansion.

Scottish Enterprise is supporting the company with grant funding of £739,000 as part of the economic agency’s drive to encourage more capital investment by companies to improve their productivity.

This news was unveiled as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week during a visit to Enevate Homes by employment and investment minister Tom Arthur and Scottish Enterprise director of productivity Elaine Morrison.

Ms Morrison said: “Businesses can create opportunities for growth and profitability with capital investment. Through its expansion project, Enevate Homes is demonstrating its growth ambition and our support builds on that, underscoring Scottish Enterprise’s commitment to encouraging businesses to invest and increase productivity.”

Mr Arthur said: “Enevate not only provides valuable employment, but helps to fulfil a need for affordable housing in an innovative and sustainable way.

“I am pleased we are able to provide support through Scottish Enterprise to help the company expand its operations in Scotland.

“In Scottish Apprenticeship Week, it’s also encouraging to see Enevate giving 12 apprentices a valuable start, and the close links the company has with local schools and colleges to offer opportunities to young people in the area.”

The company serves the housing industry and supplies modular solutions built in its factory with a production line capable of manufacturing the steel structures as well as internal fitout.

Enevate Homes is now set for expansion, which will fulfil its growth ambitions and take advantage of UK housing market opportunities. The company is investing a total of £2.9m and will create 18 new jobs, taking the team to 70 employees, which includes an increased number of apprenticeships.

Providing opportunities for young people has become a focus for the company and a key component of its growth plans.

Gary Mayatt, managing director of Enevate Homes Ltd, said: “The grant from Scottish Enterprise has provided us with the opportunity to invest in apprentices and support the future of North Lanarkshire’s younger generation through apprenticeship programs and upskilling initiatives.”

Diane Greenlees, Skills Development Scotland director, added: “There are more apprentices training in construction than any other sector of Scotland’s economy.

“We estimate that the country needs 70,000 new entrants to the sector in the next decade to meet industry demand and apprenticeships can play a major role in ensuring construction employers can meet this challenge.

“Created in collaboration with industry, Scottish Apprenticeships help businesses build a skilled and diverse workforce.”

Enevate Homes designs and manufactures housing solutions using patented technology to create innovative steel framed house modules for clients that reduce on-site costs and build times as the majority of the building is ready to use.

This also means less energy is used to manufacture modular buildings than traditional construction methods and ensures Enevate supports a more sustainable built environment with up to 70% fewer CO2 emissions in its manufacturing processes.
