A tasteful Scottish housing restoration project has won a prestigious award – one of two secured by the developer All Saints Living.

The conversion of Morar House in Helensburgh, has been named Best Apartment for Scotland’s Highlands and Islands in the UK Property Awards 2018/19.

Overlooking the Clyde Estuary, the mansion was designed by architect William Leiper and built between 1901 and 1903 in the grounds of Drumadoon, home of the ship owning McAlpine family.

Having stood empty for several years, it was listed in the Scottish buildings at risk register of country houses, mansions and large villas.

A number of the original features are being incorporated into seven spacious apartments in the original house. A new extension will include five more, while three large detached homes will be built within the grounds.

The developer will also pick up Best Residential Development, Tyne and Wear for its the 14 executive homes it is building within two 18th century walled gardens in Gosforth, near Newcastle.

The presentation ceremony will be at the Royal Lancaster, London on October 26, where All Saints Living will compete against the best property professionals across the UK regions to be recognised as overall winner in the Best Apartment and Best Development categories.
