More rooms added to planned Edinburgh Airport hotel
A proposed hotel next to Edinburgh Airport is to be expanded by a further 65 rooms under newly submitted plans.
Acting on behalf of Ability Hotel Group, Leach Rhodes Walker and Lichfields have prepared plans for an expanded 240 bed hotel on Almond Avenue.
The six storey proposal supersedes earlier plans for a 175-bed venue by 3DReid, which were approved in 2015.
Retaining the existing Spitfire Monument to remain in its present position, the project will also include meeting rooms, a fitness suite and a bar.
In a concept statement the architects wrote: “The building’s position on the site will continue to mark the entrance into the airport, with the revised proposals increasing the hotel’s presence as a gateway and being more visible to those arriving and departing from the airport and give it closer proximity to both Eastfield Road and Jubilee Road.
“The massing also retains all public services to the ground floor and all private bedrooms to the upper floors, thus allowing for an increase in the extent of glazing to the ground floor level and improving the extent of interactive facade which connects visually with Jubilee Road and the main terminal building.”
