Newtide Investments Limited secured planning permission in December last year to deliver an eight-storey development where the old Liquid building currently stands on South Ward Road.

Under the plans, the former nightclub building will be demolished and a 215-bed purpose-built student accommodation block built in its place.

A cinema room, gym, study areas and bike storage will also be included.

As part of the approval, Dundee City Council stipulated work should begin within 18 months.

It had been hoped that construction would start by summer this year, with the aim for students to be living in the accommodation by 2026.

However, a fresh application has now been lodged seeking an extension.

A supporting statement detailed the move was due to a “considerable period of market and construction instability”.

The developer is asking for an additional 18 months to commence work.
