Morgan Sindall completes phase one of River Ness flood alleviation works

Morgan SindallConstruction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall has completed and handed over its works on the River Ness Flood Alleviation scheme.

The £25 million project, which is designed to protect homes and businesses in Inverness and funded by the Scottish Government and The Highland Council, is split into two phases with Morgan Sindall delivering the first phase which stretches for 650 metres on each side of the river bank from Ness Bridge to Friars Bridge.

Once both phases of the works are complete later this year, the scheme will protect around 800 homes and 200 businesses in the town.

Morgan Sindall’s area director for infrastructure, Robert Ogg, said: “During the construction there were three high water events which would have resulted in flood damage to homes had the new system not been in place. This proves that the project is appropriately designed and up to the job.

“But the project is much more than just a physical barrier to hold back the river. Now that it’s complete, people can see the scheme in its full glory. The new public realm areas are open and make a fitting buffer between the residences and River Ness.

“Feedback has been very positive on the completed scheme and we are very pleased to hand the job back with the town in a considerably safer position than it was before we arrived.”

The second phase running to the town’s harbour, which is not being delivered by Morgan Sindall, is expected to be complete later in the year.
