Morris & Spottiswood shares £79m social value impact

A report into the positive outcomes delivered by Morris & Spottiswood Group in the communities where it works has found that the construction end-to-end service provider generated £79 million of social value throughout 2024.
According to the recently published Social Value Annual Report 2024, the figure has been generated through a range of initiatives, from facilitating accessible arts and culture programmes to enabling a brand-new mental health hub to open its doors for a socially isolated rural community.

With a commitment to creating environments where people can thrive, the group cares about the impact it has on the community. Throughout the many initiatives it has conducted in 2024, there was 14 new apprenticeships created, and a further 60 apprenticeships retained. Additionally, there were 251 new jobs created, and 113 jobs protected in 2024, underpinning one of its core pillars of promoting local skills and employment. In terms of communities, there was £69,800 in community donations and 983 volunteering hours in total.
A few key examples include the development of a legacy arts project in collaboration with Ash Green Primary School and the Victoria Theatre in Halifax which focused on improving accessibility to the arts for local young people and a meaningful work placement initiative in partnership with Barnardo’s for care-experienced young people to gain vital employability skills and insight.
What’s more, having significantly expanded its footprint in London and the South of the UK, the group is already making a substantial impact on communities in this area. One standout project for a leading financial services organisation has contributed 11 new local jobs, 302 apprentice weeks (which includes 84 weeks beyond 2024), 115 volunteer hours dedicated to local causes and a total of £17,500 donated to other community initiatives.
Jon Dunwell, CEO of Morris & Spottiswood Group, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the social value that we have generated as a company in 2024, and the years preceding. We have always had a firm commitment to these initiatives as a company with family values at its roots. As we celebrate our centenary this year, our focus remains on fostering opportunities, upskilling talent, and making a meaningful difference across the UK, while also expanding our reach in the South.”
