Morris & Spottiswood targets £265m turnover in centenary year

Fresh from a series of strategic acquisitions, end-to-end service provider the Morris & Spottiswood Group is set to achieve a projected turnover of £265 million as it celebrates its centenary year.

Founded as a modest joinery workshop in Glasgow by WWI veteran George Morris and his friend John Spottiswood, the company’s ambitious approach has driven significant expansion during its 100-year history – with the recent addition of the ISG Retail team headed by Kevin Dengate adding an expected turnover of £100m to the business across the next 12 months.

From humble beginnings on the company’s first project – a new post office for the village of Arrochar – the business has stayed true to its value of ‘aiming high’, securing numerous prestigious contracts, such as the highly sought-after fitout of the QE2 in 1966.

With the recent growth driving geographical expansion, the Morris & Spottiswood Group now has national reach and is delivering major projects throughout the UK – including Old Broad Street, an 18,000 sqm Group Head Office for Lloyds Banking Group in the financial centre of London; and a new London office space for a leading global insurance business.

Drawing on the company’s long experience of working in complex and live environments, the Morris & Spottiswood Group has diversified its sectors throughout the years, with recent contracts such as the Portintruan distillery in Islay adding drinks sector experience to its established portfolio of financial, retail and public sector projects, among others.

“Our recent growth, demonstrates our ability to recognise and act on opportunities that align with our values,” says Jon Dunwell, CEO of the Morris & Spottiswood Group. “From our earliest days working on Glasgow’s schools in the 1930s to our current leadership in sustainable construction and carbon reduction solutions, we’ve always believed in maintaining the highest standards of transparency and compliance. Crucially, our people have always been our most valuable asset and we’re looking forward to our next 100 years – working together as one group and one team.”

This ambition extends beyond financial growth to include innovation and service excellence, demonstrated by the group’s investment in strategic research and leading-edge solutions across all sectors.

Today, the Morris & Spottiswood Group comprises nine specialised businesses, operating from ten strategic locations across the UK, from Glasgow to Whitstable. As a multi-skilled, end-to-end services provider, the group offers a broad range of services including construction, fit-out, retro-fit, refurbishment and M&E services, as well as in-house architectural services, maintenance, space development and furnishing, and a full range of carbon reduction solutions.
