Morrison Construction Building Central has teamed up with Glasgow Science Centre to offer selected schools free membership to the Science Centre for the current academic year.

The chosen schools will get access to STEM learning resources to support and extend the teaching in their classrooms. Teachers receive career-long progressional learning as well as video content, comprehensive lesson resources and opportunities to meet with industry experts – as well as free access to Glasgow Science Centre itself for a fun day out.

Primary school pupils will be able to get their hands stuck into interactive Learning Labs on exciting topics like the wonders of space discovery, exploring renewable energy with Powering the Future, or learning more about their own bodies, with Bodyworks.

Pupils from the selected high schools will be able to engage with Glasgow Science Centre’s STEM Futures offer; a carefully designed programme that introduces older pupils to the world of work and gives them an expert-led insight into the industries of the future, and the opportunities they present. Teachers can even bring students to fly in the Newton Flight Academy, Scotland’s only full motion flight simulators.

The chosen schools are located near Morrison Construction Building Central’s offices and major projects across the central belt and Southern Scotland, including in Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Lothian and the Scottish Borders.

Jim Johnstone, head of communities and social impact for Morrison Construction Building Central, said: “The Glasgow Science Centre is a fantastic resource for the region and Scotland as a whole, and we are delighted to be partnering with them. Inspiring children into STEM careers is a key part of what we do as a business, and this partnership can only help us create opportunities for future generations.”

Glasgow Science Centre’s chief executive officer Stephen Breslin said: “I welcome our continued partnership with Morrison Construction and the opportunities this will bring- not just for more children to engage with STEM learning- but for Glasgow Science Centre to work hand-in-hand with industries to equip the next generation with the skills needed to drive forward growth and innovation.

“At Glasgow Science Centre, we believe that no young person should face barriers to careers in STEM. With the demand for skills in science and technology continuing to grow, it has never been more important that government, industry and educators work together to bolster STEM attainment in a way that no one gets left behind.

“As a charity, none of the vital work we are able to achieve at Glasgow Science Centre would be possible without the funding of our valued partners, like Morrison Construction, who enable us to drive forward change.”
